State Police warn of phone scam
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Michigan State Police is warning U.P. residents about a phone scam that has hit the area.
The caller claims to be from Consumers Energy and demands payment within one hour through a third-party payment processor. If the payment is not made, the caller claims the resident’s power will be shut off.
The caller may have a foreign accent, and the Michigan State Police believe the calls may be coming from Mexico.
