Reading program concludes

Deborah Prescott | Daily Press

Logan and Noah Kamerschen show each other their certificates from the Summer Reading Program for Children at the Escanaba Public Library Wednesday morning. The program started June 17 and lasted six weeks, until July 27. Children’s Librarian Pat Fittante said approximately 150 children registered for the reading program. Each child received a calendar to write down how many minutes they read each day at home. At the end of the program, the calendars were returned to Fittante. She believes after all the calendars are returned, the children will have spent thousands of minutes reading. The summer reading club includes children four years old and up. Along with their certificates, the children received a balloon and a gift certificate for ice cream. Eight-year-old Logan said “Who is Derek Jeter” was his favorite book this summer. Noah, five, enjoys the “Bad Kitty” book series. Logan and Noah have a brother Joel who is eager to get into the summer reading program next year.
