Body of missing boater found in Sturgeon River

HARDWOOD, Mich. — The body of a man who went missing in the East Branch of the Sturgeon River last month has been found.

According to the Michigan State Police, on Saturday, June 29 Alex Mcdermott, 28, of Felch, Mich., was reported as having jumped off a pontoon boat and not resurfacing. The incident took place at Stromberg Park, in Hardwood.

Agencies searched for Mcdermott over the next several days, but were unsuccessful.

On Sunday afternoon, citizens on the park’s shoreline observed something floating in the water. When they checked to see what it was, they discovered it was Mcdermott’s body. The body was recovered and transported from the scene to Dickinson County Hospital.
