MDOT announces lane changes on bridge
WELLS — Eastbound and westbound traffic on the U.S. 2 and 41 bridge over the Escanaba River will be switched Saturday as the Michigan Department of Transportation’s work on the bridge continues.
The traffic reconfiguration is set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. One eastbound and one westbound lane will be opened to traffic.
Westbound traffic will be switched onto the inside lane of the bridge’s new span; then, eastbound traffic will be switched to the bridge’s inside eastbound lane. The bridge’s outside lanes will be closed for about a week while crews remove an access road, restore slopes and complete other work.
The bridge project is expected to be completed early next month. Area motorists are asked to continue reducing speeds and driving with caution while crews work to finish the project.
