Police witnessed car-school bus crash

ESCANABA — A crash involving a car and Escanaba school bus Monday was witnessed by an Escanaba Public Safety officer. According to Escanaba Public Safety, an officer was placed at the intersection of 18th Avenue South and Lincoln Road after recent complaints of vehicles not stopping for school buses with their lights flashing while picking up children . Monday, an accident occurred as a result.

Monday’s crash occurred at 7:42 a.m. and resulted in multiple injuries to the driver of the car involved and minor injuries to a child inside the bus.

The officer on scene observed a car traveling northbound on Lincoln Road in the curbside lane, driving past other vehicles stopped for a school bus with its lights activated. The car’s driver continued and drove into the back of the school bus.

The school bus was occupied by three students and a bus driver at the time. One of the children sustained minor injuries. Officers said the injured child was transported to OSF St. Francis Healthcare for treatment and was later released. The female driver of the car, who was not identified by police, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the passenger car was cited for careless driving and submitted for a driver license re-examination.
