The mats were part of of Joey Gavlek’s Eagle Scout project, where he had to complete a community service project. As part of the project, Gavlek invited his fellow scouts to help him place the 150-foot-long, by 4-foot-wide mats at the beach. Gavlek, shown in front, has been in the Boy Scouts for six years.
