Prison term for man who used computer to lure minor

ESCANABA — An Escanaba man was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a young teen at her home last December after he made arrangements on the Internet to have sex with her. The judgment was handed down in Delta County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Samuel Robert Good, 25, was sentenced to four years and three months to up to 15 years in prison on one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct of a minor child aged 13-15 years old. He was also ordered to a concurrent sentence of 18 months to up to 42 months in prison on one count of attempted use of a computer to commit a four- to-10-year felony.

The charges stem from Good’s arrest earlier this year following an investigation by the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force into the sexual assault of a minor female in Escanaba last year.

Good was originally charged with four felony counts as a habitual offender and lodged in the county jail in lieu of a $500,000 cash or surety bond. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

During his plea hearing in circuit court in April, Good admitted to using a computer to solicit the minor for the purpose of sex. He also told the court that the girl had lied about her age when he communicated with her on the internet.

In exchange for the two guilty pleas, the prosecution dismissed the habitual offense notice and the following three charges: using the internet or computer to communicate with a minor child (a 20-year felony); using the internet or computer to commit a crime involving a minor child with a maximum punishment of four years to 10 years (a 10-year felony); and encouraging a child less than 16 years old for immoral purposes (a four-year felony).

In addition to the prison term, Good was also ordered to pay a total of $266 in fines and costs. He was given credit for serving 92 days in jail.
