Kiwanis Home and Garden Show starts today

ESCANABA — The annual Kiwanis Home and Garden Show and Pancake Days will take place today through Sunday in the Ruth Butler Building at the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds in Escanaba. The show will kick off at 5 p.m.

Around 60 vendors will be at this year’s show, said Pat Rudden, a co-chair of the event. The show will once again be sponsored by American Metal Roofs of Wisconsin.

“We want everyone to come see our vendors,” said Rudden, adding this is the first time that the show has been sold out to vendors and the Kiwanis is working on squeezing booths in.

Demonstrations and presentations related to home building, remodeling, gardening and more will be a part of the event.

In addition, Michigan State University Extension will have a presence at the show providing visitors with their “Smart Gardening” sessions including soil studies, crop preservation, and how to start a garden. Presentations on how to attract birds and bees into backyards will also be available for people to enjoy.

Rod Stende, general manager of Elmer’s County Market in Escanaba, will be onsite providing grilling demonstrations for guests to view, explained Rudden.

For the Pancake Days portion of the show, visitors can enjoy the freshly prepared pancakes along with sausage, and scrambled eggs, from 5 to 8 p.m. today; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. While there is no admission to the event, tickets must be purchased for the pancake meal. Children under six eat at no cost.
