Escanaba man arrested on child porn charges

ESCANABA — An Escanaba man arrested for child sexually abusive activity was arraigned in Delta County District Court today, according to the county prosecutor who authorized a 14-count felony warrant against the suspect.

Following an intensive investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force in Marquette, Michigan State Police arrested John Schiska, 57, of Escanaba, on charges related to distributing child sexually abusive material, possessing child sexually abusive material, and using a computer to commit criminal acts, stated Delta County Prosecutor Philip Strom in a news release issued to area media on Monday.

After being released from a medical treatment facility on Friday, the suspect was arrested and lodged in the Delta County Jail, said Strom.

Agencies assisting in the ICAC Task Force investigation included the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team, Escanaba Public Safety, and the Marquette County and Delta County prosecutors.

According to ICAC’s website, the task force program is a national network of 61 coordinated task forces representing more than 4,500 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and prosecutors continually investigating and prosecuting persons involved in child abuse and exploitation involving the internet.
