ESCANABA — Local furniture store Heynssens-Selin’s will commemorate a major milestone in 2018.

Heynssens-Selin’s has been in the area since 1968. Chris Bonczyk, the store’s assistant manager, said the store plans to observe its 50th anniversary later this year.

“We’re planning a celebration for that during the summer,” he said. A date for this celebration has not yet been set.

Bonczyk has been working in the position of assistant manager at Heynssens-Selin’s since the beginning of January. He said that, so far, he has been adjusting well to his new role.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” he said.

Laurie Nelson, the store’s manager, said she is glad to have Bonczyk working in this capacity.

“I’m (really) excited to have Chris on board with us,” she said.

Business at Heynssens-Selin’s has been healthy as of late, Nelson said.

“It’s been pretty strong, actually,” she said.

Bonczyk noted power-reclining furniture and mattresses have been selling particularly well at Heynssens-Selin’s.

“Our flooring department’s very busy, too,” he said.

In addition to furniture, flooring, and bedding, Heynssens-Selin’s offers window treatments.

“We’re a complete store where you can furnish your entire home — from the (floors) to the windows to the rooms,” Nelson said.

Nelson said the store is constantly looking for new products to offer to people in the area. Recently, she visited a convention for the furniture industry held in Las Vegas and found several new items that will be sold at Heynssens-Selin’s in the future.

“We try to bring the newest products that are available in the furniture industry … to our area,” she said.

Bonczyk said that, in addition to keeping up with trends in the furniture industry, Heynssens-Selin’s emphasizes high-quality customer service.

“We just want to treat our customers the best we possibly can,” he said.

Heynssens-Selin’s is located at 1809 N. Lincoln Road in Escanaba. For more information, visit the store’s website at www.heynssensselins.com.
