Snyder praises Escanaba’s Angel drug program

ESCANABA — During his State of the State speech Tuesday, Gov. Snyder specifically praised Escanaba Public Safety Director Rob LaMarche and Delta County Prosecutor Philip Strom for their roles in developing a local Angel Program, which encourages drug addicts to voluntarily enroll in a rehabilitation program.

Community volunteers called “angels” provide support and guidance to drug addicts who are willing to participate in an intensive recovery program without fear of being arrested.

The Governor also noted the local Angel Program — the first in the state — was the model for a similar state-wide program now offered through the Michigan State Police.
