Sexual assault case heads to circuit court

ESCANABA — A Bark River man was recently arrested on a sexual assault charge possibly dating as far back as 2012 allegedly involving a girl under the age of 13 years, according to police and court records.

Dale William Beauchamp Jr., 31, of 5817 F Road, Bark River, turned himself in to law enforcement on Jan. 4 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under 13.

The 15-year felony stems from an alleged sexual assault incident that occurred sometime between Jan. 1, 2012, to July 26, 2016, in Delta County. The charge relates to a complaint filed in 2016 with the Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post, the investigating agency.

Beauchamp was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court where he is scheduled to appear for a pretrial conference hearing on Feb. 20 when he may enter a plea or schedule a trial date.

Beauchamp remains lodged in the county jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash or surety bond. He was ordered to have no contact with anyone 13 years old or younger.

Records of the above case were suppressed to the public and media in district court.
