Campground meth cases come to end

ESCANABA — The last of four women arrested in connection with a meth cook at the Gladstone campground last summer was sentenced in Delta County Circuit Court in Escanaba on Monday.

Heather Marie Mlostek, 26, of Gladstone, was sentenced to 117 days in jail and given credit for 117 days already served after pleading guilty to being an accessory after the fact to a felony offense (a five-year felony).

Mlostek and three co-defendants — Chelsea Michelle Heimerl, 25, and Sarah Jean Doutree, 24, both of Gladstone, and Tiffani Lara Conner, 28, of Escanaba — were arrested in June and initially charged with conspiracy to deliver/manufacture meth (a 20-year felony).

Each of the four women later pleaded to lesser charges and were sentenced in circuit court. Heimerl and Conner are serving time in prison, while Doutree and Mlostek were sentenced to the jail time they had served prior to their judgments.

During Monday’s court proceeding, Mlostek apologized to her family and the community.

Judge John Economopoulos advised Mlostek to address her addiction problem otherwise she will follow the fate of her two co-defendants who went to prison because of their past criminal history.

In addition to being sentenced to the jail time served, Mlostek was placed on probation for 12 months during which time she cannot have alcohol or illegal drugs and must not enter bars. She must submit to random drug testing and be in her home from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. She was ordered to pay a total of $1,328 in fines and costs.

On Oct. 10, Conner pleaded guilty to possession of meth (a 10-year felony) and was sentenced as a habitual offender to 47 months to up to 12 and a half years in prison.

Conner also pleaded guilty to possession of meth stemming from a separate incident dating back to Feb. 27, 2017. She was sentenced as an habitual offender to 28 months to 12 and a half years in prison to be served concurrently with the above sentence.

Heimerl pleaded guilty to one count of possession of meth and was sentenced to two and a half years to up to 10 years in prison on Oct. 30. She also pleaded guilty to soliciting another to manufacture meth (a five-year felony) and was sentenced to 114 days she had already served in jail.

During Doutree’s hearing on Oct. 30, she pleaded guilty to maintaining a drug vehicle (a two-year high court misdemeanor) and was sentenced to 51 days she had served in jail and 12 months probation.
