Esky City Council OKs Internet agreement

ESCANABA — Escanaba City Council approved an agreement with Michigan Broadband Services allowing the company to bring high-speed Internet capability to businesses downtown. The agreement took place during council’s regular meeting at city hall Thursday.

The contract allows Michigan Broadband Services to hang its fiber cable on poles along Ludington Street at a cost of $14.06 per pole per year that will be paid to the city under the condition the company carries proper insurance naming the city as an insured party.

Electric Superintendent Mike Furmanski explained to council that other companies have cables on city poles at the same competitive cost.

Michigan Broadband Services will provide high-speed internet service through contracts with downtown businesses.
