WILSON — A church in Wilson was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday night, according to fire officials who suspect a lightning bolt struck the building, causing the blaze.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, located at N13902 County Road 551, shortly before 9:30 p.m. CST, said a firefighter from the Gourley Township Volunteer Fire Department this morning.

Firefighters were at the scene for at least three hours. The building remains standing but suffered major damage, including the roof being destroyed.

Assisting at the scene were volunteer firefighters from Harris Township, Bark River Township, and Carney-Nadeau fire departments.
