ESCANABA — A 33-year-old Escanaba man was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court for allegedly assaulting a female victim in Masonville Township in January.

John Paul Bichler, of 4333 M Road, Escanaba, was arrested on one count of assault by strangulation, a 10-year felony, and one count of assaulting a person known to be pregnant, a 93-day misdemeanor. The charges stem from a Jan. 21, 2017 incident.

Following his arrest, Bichler posted a $1,000 cash bond and was released from police custody. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim. Bichler is scheduled for a pretrial conference hearing in circuit court on April 7 to make a plea or set a trial date.
