ESCANABA –The Canadian National (CN) Railroad Escanaba ore dock will close at the end of April Escanaba City Manager Jim O’Toole confirmed this morning. The ore docks have been a part of Escanaba for about 165 years,

According to O’Toole, a CN representative contacted him Monday confirming the closure of facility due to low activity within the dock since the closure of the Empire Mine last year.

O’Toole said that 12 employees will be affected and will be able to “bump and transfer” within the company for other job opportunities. In addition, the city of Escanaba will be available for any other assistance to those employees if need be, said O’Toole.
