Man gets jail term in strangulation case
ESCANABA – A Wisconsin man who pleaded guilty to attempting to assault a person by strangulation in Escanaba this spring was sentenced to eight months in jail. The judgment was handed down in Delta County Circuit Court on Friday.
Thomas Lawrence Killian, 23, of Manitowoc, Wis., was originally arrested on one count of assault by strangulation, a 10-year felony, in connection with a March 11, 2016 incident in Escanaba involving a female victim.
In addition to the felony charge, Killian was also charged with one count of fourth-degree child abuse and one count of domestic violence. He later pleaded guilty to attempted assault by strangulation and the original three charges were dismissed.
Killian was given credit for serving 126 days in jail and ordered to pay $758 in court costs. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and her family.
