FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Swedish authorities have released a tanker sanctioned by the EU that was detained on suspicion of causing an oil spill in the Baltic Sea. The Swedish Coast Guard said it found insufficient evidence linking the Flora 1 tanker to the spill discovered Thursday. Investigators confirmed the vessel was sailing under Cameroon’s flag. The Flora 1 is on the EU’s list of sanctioned vessels for carrying Russian oil while using high-risk shipping practices. These sanctions target a “shadow fleet” that emerged after a price cap on Russian oil was imposed by the Group of Seven democracies to limit Russia’s invasion funding.

Starting at $3.50/week.
