ESCANABA -- On Monday, Escanaba Jr/Sr High School’s eighth graders had the opportunity to interview a member of the US military during the school day. 26 veterans and current soldiers visited the school for “Coffee, Cookies and Chat” with the students.
Each military member was assigned five to six eighth graders, who learned about the training and experiences in the military. This included boot camp, education and places the soldier traveled. Many of the soldiers brought in pictures and other artifacts from their time of service.
A wide age and experience range of members in the military was represented. Students then wrote about the soldier they met and learned more about the geographical locations the person traveled. While developing interviewing skills, students could also learn about future training opportunities the different branches of the military can provide.
