ESCANABA – Delta County 4-H has awarded the 2025 4-H Club of the Year to the Isabella 4-H Club. Isabella 4-H is a livestock club focusing on beef, swine and poultry. The club currently has seven members who have been actively developing their showmanship skills.

In addition to club meetings and clinics, members attended the Michigan State University Winter Beef Show, the Lori Branstrom Memorial U.P. Classic Cattle Show in Escanaba, the Ben Lauren Memorial Livestock Show in Chatham, The Michigan State Fair in Novi and the Upper Peninsula State Fair in Escanaba.

As a community service project, members held a can drive to raise funds for the Big Bay De Noc School Backpack program.

The Club of the Year for 2024 was awarded to two clubs, Beaver Area 4-H Club and Horse Crazy Riding Club.

Beaver Area 4-H is a community club based in Perkins and Gladstone. It is the oldest club in existence in the county, with 2025 marking its 43rd anniversary. Club Leaders are Mary Simonsen and Kristen Sinnaeve.

Community Service is a cornerstone of the Beaver Area 4-H Club. Beaver currently has nine members working on 4-H projects ranging from community service and sewing to woodworking and crafts.

The club participates in the Adopt-a-Highway program, cleaning up litter three times annually on a 2-mile section of state highway in Perkins.

Additionally, they participated in a community outreach program, selling petunias and strawberries through Seven Acres Greenhouse. All proceeds, $367.50, were donated to the Mid Peninsula School Backpack Program.

They also made homemade dog treats that were donated to the Delta County Animal Shelter and made Valentine treats for the local senior center.

Members of this club are also one of the few clubs that make project record books a priority. They diligently track all their 4-H activities and reflect on their learning.
