Edie Erickson

ESCANABA/IRON MOUNTAIN — Edie Erickson is Bay College’s TORCH Award recipient for the December to February quarter.

Erickson was hired in February 2017 as an instructional designer, a position that develops courses or curriculums and creates training materials, such as teaching manuals and student guides. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and social studies from Baker College, as well as a master’s degree in educational technology from Michigan State University. She is a former third grade teacher, spending nine years teaching in South Carolina and Michigan. Erickson also is as an adjunct instructor in Michigan State University’s masters of arts in Educational Technology program.

She was nominated by multiple colleagues for her dedication to Bay’s mission and her commitment to student success, according to a news release from the college.

“Edie is the quintessential team player. She is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, responsive, and always goes above and beyond to support faculty and students working in the Blackboard space. She thinks of the larger picture and always has a focus on the team,” the news release states.

It added, “Edie has a reputation as an online learning rockstar. ‘Edie will help you’ is such a common refrain that we sometimes need to remind people that Edie is not the fixer of all the problems. But she has earned this reputation through her incredible competence, efficiency and kindness. Edie responds quickly, thoughtfully and thoroughly to the requests that come to her on a daily basis. Edie often will go above and beyond by creating tables, spreadsheets, reports and other data to support a project or goal.”

The TORCH Award gives personal recognition to employees on Bay College’s campuses dedicated to the college’s mission of attitude, commitment and the higher education learning environment.
