At the Delta County Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner Oct. 9, I was privileged to present the 2025 Bridge Builder Award celebrating members Island Resort & Casino and Hannahville Indian Community, who connect people, strengthens relationships and builds pathways to prosperity.
Their award-winning Sweetgrass Golf Club just so happens to feature five historic truss bridges that were relocated from former highways and are now a unique part of the golf course’s landscape. These bridges serve both as functional elements of the course and as historical features, with one located between the first and second holes and others displayed in more open areas.
Much like these historic bridges and bridges that link our peninsulas and carry travelers across the waters, the Island Resort & Casino and Hannahville Indian Community have been connectors in every sense — linking industry and opportunity, recreation and economic development and people with unforgettable experiences.
Through their continued partnerships, the Island Resort & Casino and Hannahville Indian Community have supported some of Delta County’s most significant events and initiatives — from hosting the LPGA tournament to providing vital financial support for the U.P. State Fair and awarding grants that sustain the Bay de Noc fisheries and sponsor the Masters Walleye Circuit Tournament in Gladstone’s freshwater harbor.
Each of these investments creates additional opportunities for growth — drawing visitors from far and wide, showcasing our hospitality, and generating economic vitality that strengthens the entire region.
