ESCANABA — Scout Troop 411 did a cleanup Monday on U.S. 2 west of Escanaba as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program.

Six youths and five adults participated in the cleanup.

Assistant Scoutmaster Stacy Bingham introduced the Adopt-a-Highway program to Troop 411 25 years ago as part of his adult leader training called Wood Badge.

Adopt-A-Highway is a MDOT program designed to help keep the state’s highway roadsides clean and attractive. Participants adopt both sides of a section of state highway roadside to clean up over a two-year period. A minimum 2-mile stretch of roadway is recommended.

Troop 411 is a very active unit, with activities ranging from backpacking, camping, sailing, log rolling, Mackinac Island Scout Service Camp and more.

Troop 411 meets at 6 p.m. every Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba. For more information, contact Scoutmaster Craig Woerpel at 906-280-0936 or craig@upscouting.org.

Starting at $3.50/week.
