ESCANABA — Escanaba Public Safety responded to two fires on Saturday.

On Saturday, June 28, around 11:30 a.m. Escanaba Public Safety responded to a vehicle fire on Sheridan Road. Responding officers were able to contain the fire and no injuries reported. Around the same time, officers responded to a fire at the Delta Solid Waste Management Authority Landfill. The Ford River Fire Department responded to the landfill and were able to contain it. Officials said the fire was roughly eight feet by eight feet. Escanaba Public Safety Captain Darren Smith said the landfill used a loader to dump sand on the flames and Ford River officials hosed the pile. No injuries were reported. The cause of both fires is yet to be determined.
