New traffic pattern in Manistique
MANISTIQUE — A traffic pattern change has been made as a result of the street construction underway on Houghton Avenue in Manistique. As anticipated there has been increased vehicle traffic on streets that run parallel to North Houghton Avenue.
This temporary traffic pattern change involves the installation of two stop signs at the intersection of North 1st and Badger Streets. Motorist will now be expected to stop at the intersection when traveling north and south on North 1st Street. Motorists approaching the intersection from the west on Badger
Street will see a minimal change in their pattern. These motorist will still be expected to stop at the intersection as in the past but follow standard intersection regulations.
This change was made in an effort to slow the increased traffic on North 1st Street, which was causing some safety concerns for the residents, especially children in the area. This area, including the new three way stop intersection will be patrolled regularly by Manistique Public Safety for compliance. Motorists
are reminded that the posted speed in this immediate area is 25 mph and will also be monitored by traffic patrols.
Motorist in the area surrounding the Houghton Avenue projects are encouraged to be aware of changing traffic patterns and flows. Manistique Public Safety will be monitoring traffic and will be issuing citations accordingly. Motorist are reminded that fines for moving violations within work zones are doubled. If a worker is injured or killed the driver may face increased fines and imprisonment up to 15 years.
