Forest and wildlife grants awarded
ESCANABA — Charlie Becker, board Member of the Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund (UPSF & W) Grants Committee, announced the recipients of their April 2025 Grant Round.
Those receiving grants are:
Drummond Island Off-Road Club – Trailwise: Engaging Off-Road Enthusiasts in Wetland and Amphibian Monitoring
Hancock Trails Club – UTV Purchase, plus interpretive signs promoting forestry
Friends of the Whitefish Point under Western Great Lakes Bird and Bats Observatory – Whitefish Point Owl Banding Program
Straits Area Sportsmen’s Club – Louie’s Kid’s Fishing Day
“Our committee is grateful for the foresight of the former Mead Corporation for their desire to have a partnership with their employees; sportsmen, sportswomen and the youth of the Upper Peninsula. We are proud to be a committee under the auspices of the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula. It is our mission to foster a better understanding of our forests and wildlife as well as assist U.P. residents, including our youth, to become more active and enjoy the outdoors as much as is possible,” Becker said.
Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula President/CEO, Mrs. Cheryl Andzejewski stated, “The foundation feels privileged to hold the Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund and are proud of all the good they do in the Upper Peninsula. They truly care about the residents of the U. P. and in educating and offering healthy outdoor activities for individuals and families to enjoy.”
The Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund Fall 2025 grant round will “open” on Friday, August 29 and all grant application requests and requirements must be received by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1 to be considered.
