ESCANABA — First responders responded to and contained a garage fire before it was fully engulfed on Tuesday.

At approximately 3 p.m., Escanaba Public Safety responded a report of a fence fire at 534 North 19th Street in Escanaba. While units were en route, Delta County Central Dispatched updated responders that the fire spread and an adjacent garage was involved.

“Thanks to the rapid response of officers and immediate access to water upon arrival, the fire was quickly knocked down before the garage could become fully engulfed. The swift actions of responding personnel prevented further property damage and potential spread to nearby structures,” the department said in a press release.

Escanaba Public Safety extends its gratitude to the alert citizens who promptly called 911, allowing for a timely response and assisting with hoses on scene. The department also acknowledges and thanks Delta County Central Dispatch for the excellent communication and coordination throughout the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
