Bay appoints DeGrand head of Foundation and Alumni Relations

ESCANABA — Bay College announces the appointment of Vicki DeGrand as the new executive director of Foundation and Alumni Relations. A dedicated member of the Bay College team for over 13 years, DeGrand brings institutional knowledge, a passion for student success, and a commitment to the community to her new leadership role.

Born and raised in Delta County, DeGrand is a proud Bay College alumna who has long valued the accessibility and quality of higher education in her own backyard.

“I spent a lot of time on the Escanaba campus as a college student,” shared DeGrand. “After taking classes at Bay College, I continued on and earned my bachelor’s degree in business administration/management through Lake Superior State University – taking all my classes right here on Bay’s campus. I’m so happy I decided to stay local. I wasn’t ready to leave home, yet I desired a high-quality education.”

DeGrand’s personal connection runs even deeper – her mother pursued her teaching degree at Bay College as an adult learner. “To this day, my mom praises Bay College for providing the resources she needed to succeed as a 40-year-old college student,” said DeGrand. “After her experience, I knew Bay College was the right educational path for me.”

As Executive Director of Foundation and Alumni Relations, DeGrand will lead efforts in fundraising, donor relations, scholarship development, and alumni engagement to support Bay College’s mission for both the Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses. Her leadership is expected play a key role in advancing Bay College’s mission and supporting future generations of students.

“Vicki’s dedication to student success, combined with her deep community roots, makes her an exceptional choice for this position,” said Dr. Nerita Hughes, Bay College President. “She has been working with Bay College donors for years and has been instrumental in connecting donors with opportunities that make a difference for our students.”

“I am honored and excited to step into this role,” shared DeGrand. “Bay College has played a significant role in my life, and I’m proud to be able to help others on their educational journey. I look forward to working with donors, community partners, and college leadership to continue supporting student and community success at Bay College.”

Vicki and her husband, Jamie, reside in Escanaba with their two children, Timmy and Levi.

DeGrand succeeds Kim Carne, who retired at the end of January 2025 after serving as vice president for advancement for more than 15 years.
