ESCANABA — Delta County Airport was abuzz with excitement and youthful enthusiasm on Saturday, July 13, as the airport welcomed 33 Young Eagles and their families for an unforgettable day of aviation adventure. The event was part of the nationwide Young Eagles program, aimed at inspiring the next generation of aviators by giving children aged 8-17 their first free ride in an airplane.
The day commenced with clear skies and high spirits as families gathered at the airport, eagerly anticipating the unique experience. Young Eagles had the opportunity to meet experienced pilots, learn about the fundamentals of aviation, and enjoy a memorable flight over Delta County. Each child received a certificate commemorating their inaugural flight, as well as a logbook signed by their pilot.
“We are thrilled to have hosted this event and provided a platform for young people to explore the exciting world of aviation,” said Robert Ranstadler, airport manager at Delta County Airport. “Seeing the smiles on the faces of the Young Eagles as they took to the skies was truly rewarding. We hope this experience ignites a lifelong passion for aviation in many of these young people.”
The event also featured various ground activities, including educational displays about aviation history, aircraft static displays, and opportunities for families to interact with aviation professionals. It was a day filled with learning, exploration, and fun for everyone involved.
“Delta County Airport extends its heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this day possible. We look forward to hosting similar events in the future and continuing to inspire and educate the youth of our community about the wonders of aviation,” officials said.
