Bay College introduces Kickstart Program for students

ESCANABA — Bay College announces the opening of registration for this summer’s Bay College Kickstart Program. This program is designed to help students enhance their English and math skills, gain essential college knowledge, and develop the tools needed for success in college courses — all while enjoying delicious meals and fun activities.

This no-cost program is open to Michigan residents of any age who have a high school diploma or GED and are planning to attend a Michigan community college or university in the fall of 2024. Individuals who participate may be eligible to receive up to $500 for completion. The Bay College Kickstart Program runs in June, July, and August 2024 and is being offered at both Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses, and virtually, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all participants.

“We understand the challenges students face when transitioning to college,” said Gabi Boyle, Bay College advisor. “Through the Bay College Kickstart Program, we aim to ease these concerns by providing resources such as academic support, transportation, free school supplies, and meals. We want every participant to have the tools to thrive academically.”

Bay College can provide this service thanks to funds received by the Michigan Community College Association’s Academic Catch-Up Program.

Those who may benefit from this program include:

– Individuals motivated to get a jump start on their college career

– Recent high school graduates starting their college journey

– Individuals who want to go to college but are intimidated by Math or English

– Anyone needing a refresher before returning to college after a gap in time

– Returning students who may have struggled in Math and English courses and need a boost before retaking a class

“This is an incredible opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to prepare themselves for a successful college experience,” states Marc Pilon, Bay College Math Instructor.

The Bay College Kickstart Program will run at different locations and times to accommodate participants. The program will be held from June 10 to June 20 at the Iron Mountain Campus, from July 15 to July 25 at the Escanaba Campus, and from July 29 to August 8 online via Zoom. Sessions will take place Monday through Thursday for two weeks, providing a flexible schedule for students.

Starting at $3.50/week.
