Two sentenced to prison

MENOMINEE — The Menominee County Prosecutor’s Office announced two prison sentences Monday, the ninth and tenth such convictions of 2024.

Asher Allan McNeil, 41, of Menominee was sentenced to three to five years in prison on May 10, after pleading guilty to Attempted Threat of Terrorism on March 28.

According to court documents and information presented in open court, on Oct 23, 2023, a Michigan Department of Health and Humand Services manager made a report with the Menominee Police Department that McNeil, who was an MDHHS client had called to request assistance with his furnace. McNeil became irate and unreasonable when the procedure for gaining assistance was explained to him.

When the MDHHS manager for on the phone with McNeil, McNeil screamed that “if CPS comes over, somebody’s gonne get shot,” that “they better bring M-16s with drum magazines,” and that he was “armed with explosives.”

When police arrived at McNeil’s house at 312 4th Place in Menominee, he screamed “I don’t believe in threats. I make promises.”

According to Menominee County Prosecutor, Jeffery Rogg, McNeil “had access to weapons and explosives that would have allowed him to carry out those threats.”

In an unrelated case, Raymond Vern MacLeod, 39, of Traverse City, was sentenced to 18 months to four years in prison on May 10, after pleading guilty to Possession of Cocaine on March 8.

According to court documents and information presented in open court, Michigan State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop on Oct. 18, 2023 on U.S. 41 near Snow Road in Nadeau Township. MacLeod was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, and during the investigation a K-9 unit was deployed. The dog alerted on the vehicle’s passenger compartment, which contained a small metal container with a screwable top containing 8 grams of cocaine.
