Library to host true crime author

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Public Library announces an Author Talk with U.P. Notable Books author Rod Sadler who will present his latest book Grim Paradise: The Cold Case Search for the Mackinac Island Killer on Thursday, May 16 at 6 p.m. in the library.

On July 24, 1960, the quaint charm and serenity of Mackinac, nestled between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas, was shattered by Frances Lacey’s brutal death. Despite a massive manhunt and thousands of pages of police reports, her killer was never caught.

“In Grim Paradise: The Cold Case Search for the Mackinac Island Killer, Rod Sadler does what he does best by giving the reader an in-depth, inside look into the investigation of the murder of widow and mother Frances Lacey at one of Michigan’s most beloved vacation spots. Sadler’s background in law enforcement allows him to write about crime with true attention to detail. Here, Sadler gives us so much more than a glimpse at a horrific tragedy that shouldn’t be forgotten. It’s an engrossing read.”– Rachel Greco, Lansing State Journal

Rod Sadler is a seasoned law enforcement veteran with a three-decade career. He retired in Mid-Michigan in 2012. His insatiable curiosity and relentless pursuit of justice led him to embark on an award-winning writing career. His 2020 true crime Killing Women: The True Story of Serial Killer Don Miller’s Reign of Terror has become the backdrop for two True Crime Network documentaries.
