Phlebotomy training program at Bay

ESCANABA — Bay College’s Workforce Training Division is offering a six-week / 60 contact hour phlebotomy technician training program that will prepare students for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification. Students will gain the knowledge and skills required to be a phlebotomist by attending classroom instruction as well as live draw practice, and successful completion of a 100-hour internship.

“Phlebotomy technicians collect blood from patients and prepare the samples for testing,” said Carrie Youngs, RN, and Bay College trainer. “Phlebotomy technicians play an important role in healthcare and can be employed in hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, and blood donation centers.”

The Phlebotomy Technician Training Program starts on February 14, and will be held Wednesday evenings from 5 to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 20. Training will be held at the Escanaba Bay College campus with clinical sites available throughout the Upper Peninsula.

Cost of the training is $1,900, which includes all instructional material, and class size is limited to ensure manageable instructor to student ratio. To register, visit mytraining.baycollege.edu or call (906)-217-4200 for additional information.
