ESCANABA -- The Delta County Cancer Alliance has changed the date and location of its annual Luminary Event
"You may have wondered last August during Fair Week why the Cancer Alliance did not present their annual Luminary Event, "In Memory of and In Honor of" loved ones that we have lost to cancer or who may be enduring the challenges of cancer. For many years the Alliance collaborated with the Escanaba City Band at their last concert to present the luminary heart display. Many enjoyed the event but others asked to present the luminary in a new venue with dim lighting and the ambience to support those we remember and those we are supporting with the challenges of cancer," Alliance officials said.
The DCCA has accepted the challenge and arranged this this new venue:
Delta County Cancer Alliance 2024 Luminary Gathering will be held Saturday, February 3 at the Holy Name Grade School Gymnasium, 409 South 22nd St., Escanaba, from 3 to 5 p.m. This is a family event. The doors will be open at 3 p.m. There will be tables filled with art supplies and luminary bags that can be purchased for $5 each to individually decorate
"In Memory of and In Honor of" loved ones that we have lost to cancer or who may be enduring the challenges of cancer.
At 4 p.m. the luminary bags will be beautifully displayed on the bleachers followed by a ceremony of "Memory and Honor." Light snacks and beverages will be provided. The gathering will also include musical entertainment by the Reflections Band.
If you are unable to attend, luminary bags can be purchased and returned to the Cancer Alliance, 3430 Ludington Street, Monday through Friday, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Deadline to return is Friday, February 2.
Gayle DeShambo, Cancer Alliance president, said she is hopeful the community will take advantage of this event to support all of us who have been impacted by the challenges of cancer. All proceeds will remain in Delta County to help friends and family with cancer-related expenses.
