ESCANABA -- In order to honor veterans and afford them an opportunity to visit, the U.P. Military Museum will be open on Veteran's Day, Saturday, November 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located in the Delta County Commerce Center in Escanaba.
Focusing on over two centuries of contributions and sacrifices made by men and women from Upper Michigan, the museum begins with the Civil War and carries through the conflict in Afghanistan. Featuring a large selection of artifacts and memorabilia that have been donated by UP veterans, the museum's displays take you inside the stories of the individuals who stepped up and did what was necessary to support and protect our country during times of war. With displays featuring World War I's Polar Bears and the Fly Girls of World War II, the museum tells the often unheard stories of those who left their homes in Upper Michigan when their country called.
The museum also features special sections focusing on the many roles played by the U.P.'s indigenous peoples as well as an area dedicated to the Honor Flight program.
Those visiting the museum will also have the opportunity to check out the Commerce Center's second attraction, the Webster Marble: Inventing the Outdoors Experience. This museum focuses on the life and works of Webster Marble, the founder of Gladstone's Marble Arms.
