Food pantry gets donation from Bay de Noc Lions Club
ESCANABA — The Bay College Food Pantry recently received a donation of 22 pounds of non-perishable items from the Bay De Noc Lions Club to help support the ongoing hunger efforts of its students. Bay College has had a food pantry in operation since November 8, 2017 to help address food insecurity within the student community. The pantry is primarily staffed by TRIO Student Support Services student workers and professional staff members. Beyond the pantry’s partnerships with Feeding America West Michigan and Aldi, public and private donations are also accepted and welcomed.
“Food insecurity is a real thing amongst our students, and we are incredibly grateful for the generous donation received this week to help aid our students in success. If even a little burden boar by our students can be relieved, then the pantry is a success. The Lions Club helped relieve some of that burden today” said Jennifer Pickle, TRIO program coordinator who assists with the food pantry.
When asked why they chose the Bay College Food Pantry, Bay de Noc Lions Past President Tina Jensen stated “Lions clubs all over the world support five primary global causes and hunger is one of them. The Bay de Noc Lions wanted to show support to the Bay College Food Pantry by collecting items from our membership to help support the many hungry students that the pantry serves.”
