Iron Mountain VA to host Drug Take Back Day

1 min read

IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Department of Veterans Affairs is launching a nationwide effort to assist veterans and non-veterans with the disposal of unused or expired prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs, including controlled substance prescription medications, on designated VA Medication Take Back Days. The effort is part of the Presidents' Dispose of Unused Medications and Prescription (DUMP) Opioids Act, signed into law in 2021.

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center will host a Drug Take Back event Friday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Iron Mountain campus. Anyone can safely dispose of unwanted medications, no liquids or syringes, in designated safe return receptacles during this time.

"We welcome both veterans and non-veterans to participate in this bi-annual event," said Patrick Palmquist, OGJVAMC Chief of Police Services. "Just look for our red coat volunteers, those wearing recognizable red vests, and they will direct you to the disposal container."

Questions regarding the event can be directed to the medical center by calling (906) 774-3300.
