ESCANABA -- Instructors from the DSISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) took students to the State of Michigan Capital Heritage Center in Lansing on April 2 for a CTE Showcase.

Bill Dufour, Instructor of Product Design and Development and Bill Wagner, Instructor of Automotive and students Morgen Leonard, Emily Lafave, Trevor Hase and Kirk Slater were representing not only the DSISD CTE, they were also representing all UP CTE programming at the showcase.

The students hosted a booth to engage with policy makers and state legislators to help showcase the importance of Career and Technical Education across the state. The Product Design and Development students focused on how the relationship between students from CTE programs work together on designs, reverse engineering projects, and new and innovative ideas to learn how industry works.

Automotive students from the Schoolcraft CTE Center informed policy makers about the internal combustion engine race car that they have fabricated to race at Road America in May as well as how automotive skills transfer through that project.

Students said they thought it was an amazing opportunity to go to Lansing and show all the great things we do in class.

"It was awesome how well the students worked together. They were from four different area high schools, hadn't worked together before and barely knew each other, but really came together to work as a team," said Bill Dufour.
