ESCANABA -- Escanaba Kiwanis Club is launching a new service project in October to promote children’s literacy and community trust in law enforcement. Kiwanis & Cops & Kids kicks off on Saturday, October 15 at 1 p.m. at the Escanaba Public Library, and is open to families with preschool and early elementary age children.
Kiwanis & Cops & Kids is a free monthly story time where police officers read to kids, not only engaging them in fun stories that help build literacy skills, but also establishing a positive association with law enforcement officers as trusted helpers. Children also will receive a free book, provided by Escanaba Kiwanis Club.
The Escanaba Kiwanis Club is partnering with Escanaba Public Safety and the Escanaba Public Library, and plans to offer Kiwanis & Cops & Kids on the third Saturday of each month. This is a drop-in program, so registration is not required, but children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
