The Gladstone Women's Slowpitch League recently held its annual League Tournament in Rapid River. They renamed the tournament the First Annual Candy Swetkis Memorial Tournament in honor of Candy's 56 year softball career and her many contributions to the league and to the game. Candy passed away on April 30. The league sold sweatshirts and tee shirts in her memory with all profits going to a favorite charity of hers. Shown presenting a $600 check to the Delta Animal Shelter are, from left, Lisa Waters, vice president and Sadie Strasser, president of the Gladstone Women's Slowpitch League, Sue Gartland, director of the Delta Animal Shelter, and Anne Okonek and Brenda Madden, representing Elmer's County Market who sponsored the team that Candy coached and played on from 2012 until 2021.
