Bay College to host Rapid Enrollment Day

ESCANABA — Michiganders who are 25 years old or older and don’t have a degree are encouraged to take advantage of the Michigan Reconnect scholarship program. Michigan Reconnect is the largest effort in state history to ensure that Michiganders will have an opportunity to earn an associate degree or skills certificate with free or deeply discounted tuition.

Bay College is hosting a special Reconnect-focused Rapid Enrollment Day on Friday, August 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both the Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses.

The state’s network of Michigan Reconnect Navigators are actively working with nearly 18,000 Michigan Reconnect applicants to guide them on their path to a college degree or skills certificate, including applying for federal student aid, setting career goals, selecting a program of study, registering for classes and creating a graduation plan.

Marsha Tompkins, Reconnect navigator, will be present on the Escanaba campus to meet with students. New, returning, and transfer students are invited to campus to get assistance with every step in the college process and signing up for the Reconnect scholarship. The college process can include applying to the college, registering for courses, applying for financial aid, and purchasing books.

“Putting all the pieces together to start or restart college can be over-whelming, especially for adult students who have many priorities in their busy lives. Navigators help all along the way, answer questions, provide support and encouragement throughout the process. It’s an honor to work every day with folks who are on this journey and let them know they have a partner in this endeavor. We are here to help,” said Tompkins.

Michigan Reconnect pays the cost of in-district tuition and fees for eligible adults who want to pursue an associate degree or certificate.

To be eligible for Michigan Reconnect, a person must:

– Be at least 25 years old when you apply

– Have lived in Michigan for a year or more

– Have a high school diploma or equivalent

– Have not yet completed a college degree (associate or bachelor’s)
