Escanaba Public Library hosts Author Talk

ESCANABA — On Tuesday, August 9 at 4:30 p.m. the Escanaba Public Library will hold an Author Talk with Author Eugene Milhizer and his book, Dissecting Anatomy of a Murder: The Author, The Crime, The Novel, And the Film. In his book, Milhizer carefully and intelligently unravels the trial, book and movie based on one of the most famous criminal trials of the 20th century. He will explore the 1952 murder in Big Bay, Michigan and discuss community attitudes about the crime as well as legalities presented in his book. The book is based, in part, on his extensive research of John

Voelker’s journals and related materials housed in the Northern Michigan University Archives.

Dean Emeritus Milhizer earned his B.A. (high distinction) and J.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. He later earned an LL.M degree from the Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was the first honor graduate in his class and thereafter taught for a three-year appointment. In 2001, Dean Emeritus Milhizer joined Ave Maria School of Law faculty upon retiring as an Army Judge Advocate after 21 years of service.

In May 2006, he was appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and in April 2009, he was appointed Acting President and Dean of the Law School. In January 2010, Dean Emeritus Milhizer was appointed the Law School’s second President and Dean. He stepped down in July 2014 and rejoined the faculty as a full-time professor, teaching mainly in the areas of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure.

Dean Emeritus Milhizer has lectured at law schools and other venues throughout the country. He is the author of two books, and his legal scholarship has been published internationally in many prestigious law journals and magazines.

The event does not require registration and is free to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event and a book signing will follow the authors presentation.
