LANSING -- Local community college students from Bay College were recently honored for their academic achievements and named to the state's Academic Team within Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), a national honor society for high-achieving college students. The Michigan Community College Association held a celebration ceremony in Lansing on March 7. This year, students from 25 out of Michigan's 28 community colleges are represented. The 2022 All-Michigan Academic team includes three students from Bay College: Kayla Ling, Dylan Messina and Alexandria Miller.
"We are thrilled to recognize the 79 students from Michigan's community colleges that were nominated to be a part of the Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team," said Brandy Johnson, president of the Michigan Community College Association.
"These students have shown great drive, leadership and dedication to their studies and are yet another example of the immense talent we have at Michigan's 28 community colleges."
Students are nominated by their colleges based on academic achievement, community service involvement and leadership accomplishment. To be part of PTK, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have completed at least 12 hours of coursework towards an associate or bachelor's degree or at least 6 hours of coursework toward a 1-year certificate.
Since its inception in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has been helping students at associate degree-granting colleges reach their full potential. The honor society provides opportunities for students to grow their professional and leadership skills, earn scholarships and explore various career paths.
