Mackinac Island man arrested on child porn charge

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. — The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force announced Friday the arrest of Matthew Bartkowiak, 27, a full-time resident of Mackinac Island, for aggravated child sexually abusive material.

The investigation was initiated when a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). As a result of the investigation, multiple internet capable devices and evidence were seized from his home. The MSP Computer Crimes Unit was assisted by the MSP Marine Services Team, the 8th District Canine Unit and the Mackinac Island Police Department.

Bartkowiak, has been charged with 10 counts of child sexually abusive material – aggravated possession, and four counts of possession of child sexually abusive material. Bartkowiak was arraigned in 92nd District Court on Friday, Oct. 22.

If convicted, Bartkowiak faces up to 10 years in prison for each count of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, and up to four years in prison for each count of possession of child sexually abusive material.
