Library invites community to StoryWalk unveiling

ESCANABA — The Friends of the Escanaba Public Library and the Delta County Great Start Parent Coalition invite the community to the grand opening of a new StoryWalk located on the north lawn of the library on Wednesday, October 20 at 4:30 p.m.

The StoryWalk, a collaborative effort of the Delta County Great Start Parent Coalition and the Friends of the Library, is a set of 15 free standing panels, each featuring a page of a children’s picture book. Participants follow the path to read and interact with the story. Books will be changed throughout the year to offer a fresh experience.

Activities at the grand opening will include a ribbon cutting, StoryWalk unveiling, free books and treats and a special guest.

“We are very excited to be revealing the Story Walk, especially during National Friends of Libraries Week,” said Friends President Kelly Pepin.

“We welcome all our area children, families, caregivers and teachers to enjoy this festive occasion,” said Escanaba Library Director Carolyn Stacey. “StoryWalks are a creative way to combine early literacy and healthy activity. We plan to have fun with this project year-round.”

“Great Start is delighted to collaborate with the library to bring this unique feature to our community. We look forward to seeing families utilizing this beautiful space to talk, read, sing and learn together,” said Laurie Mold, Delta County Great Start parent liaison.

This project was made possible by Great Start’s Talking is Teaching Initiative, the Friends of the Escanaba Public Library and the City of Escanaba.
