Sault Tribe boosts hourly pay

1 min read

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- In response to wage inflation during the COVID-19 global pandemic and tribally declared emergency, the Sault Tribe Board of Directors voted at its Aug. 3 meeting to provide every team member under the Sault Tribe organization umbrella an increase of $3 per hour.

The $3 per hour measure will be retroactive to July 4 and last through Oct. 2. "This is a temporary measure," Sault Tribe Executive Director Christine McPherson said. "The Sault Tribe Board of Directors will review and implement a compensation study this fall."

The across-the-board raise will cost the tribe roughly $3 million -- $2 million for the governmental and EDC team members, and $1 million for the casino team members.
