ESCANABA -- Red O'Hearn will be joining other famous trapping experts at the 59th Annual Trappers Convention /Outdoor Expo which will be held at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba Michigan on July 9-10.

O'Hearn is from Iowa where he started trapping as a youngster and continues to this day. He has trapped in at least nine states and consistently puts up unreal capture numbers. Seasons with catches of over 1,000 raccoons, 350 beaver, and 150 mink are common for him. With all that practice, he has his beaver skinning time averaging 7 minutes! He serves as director of District one of the Iowa Trappers Association and does his best to promote the sport. Trapping is so "in his blood" that he hasn't held a "punch-the-timeclock" job since 1983. Red will be giving a demonstration on beaver trapping when he takes the stage at this event. He will be in the lineup with other famous trapping experts like Jeff Dunlap (Dunlap Lures), Ed Schneider (Kansas Trap Lines), Lesel Reuwsaat (Freedom Outdoors TV), Jeff Hagerty (Inventor Hagz Trapping Products), John Chagnon (PCS Outdoors and Lenon Lures), and local trappers John Gunville and Roy Dahlgren.

"We are pleased to have Red returning to Escanaba," stated Bob Steinmetz (member of UP Trappers and NTA Director for the Upper Peninsula). "He does a great job of teaching his methods, techniques and tips. He also willingly engages the audience with dialog and Q and A. Those attending his demo are sure to learn a lot!" Steinmetz added.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Along with the educational sessions, this family friendly event offers lots to do and see. There will be at least two buildings full of inside vendors and additional vendors outside. Lots of products in addition to trapping supplies including socks, army surplus, knives, wildlife art and more.

There will be a Friday Night Fish Fry/Fundraiser and a limited number of tickets are available by contacting Roy Dahlgren.

Camping is available on the grounds.
