Hospice volunteer training offered

ESCANABA — Hospice volunteers have unique duties. They spend their time with the terminally ill to provide a listening ear or they may sit in silence, simply to provide a kind presence. They give caregivers the opportunity to attend appointments, go to lunch, or in some cases, just take a nap, knowing that their loved one is not alone.

Sometimes, the people who are at first unsure of their talents go on to be the best volunteers, and to find a deep sense of reward in the position. No patient care skills are required, only compassion, commitment and a love for people.

Dates for training are Monday, August 2 and Tuesday August 3 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in the second floor conference room from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. If interested, call volunteer coordinator Ilene at (906) 786-3915 for information or to register.
