ESCANABA -- Ann Bissell is Bay College's quarterly (June 2021 - August 2021) TORCH Award winner. Bissell is the Assistant Librarian for the Bay College Library. She supports the Library's mission to provide materials and services to promote learning, instruction, research, self-awareness, and cultural awareness. Bissell also assists in the planning and coordination of the delivery of general and reference library services, ensuring that the Bay College Library is a responsive and vital academic resource for students, faculty, staff and community members.
Bissell was nominated by one of her co-workers for going above and beyond to support student success during the pandemic. She is recognized for her work as noted in the following:
"Ann embraces challenges and change well, to ensure that all patrons receive a quality experience. This can be shown this year in the pandemic, by taking on a number of library related items to continue to serve students. This ranged from serving students remotely while on lock down, and creating ways to maintain services to patrons when the library was operating with the stacks closed. Ann has also tackled technology issues, like troubleshooting wireless hotspots to help our students that could not afford internet during the pandemic to be able to continue with online classes and services"
For 36 years, Bissell has helped Bay students, community members, and staff of the college to foster success. The library is a critical resource for so many in our service community, and Bissell is a vital part of creating that resource what it is today.
The purpose of the TORCH Award is to give personal recognition to those employees on Bay College's campuses dedicated to the mission of the College because of their attitude, commitment, and dedication toward the higher education learning environment.
